Mepiform® – The silicone dressing that can help reduce scarring
Mepiform dressings with Safetac® Technology have soft silicone in the dressing surface, which helps to minimise scarring. You can buy Mepiform direct here.
Using Mepiform
When the wound is healed (closed) and stitches, if any, have been removed, take a sheet of Mepiform and cut it a little larger than the size of the scar – allow about a 1cm border on the surrounding skin.
Make sure that the skin is dry and free of creams etc, then remove the protective plastic film and place the Mepiform on the scar.
Wear the Mepiform for 24 hours a day, removing it only once to check the wound and to have a shower.
Mepiform doesn’t need to be cleaned or rinsed and the same dressing can be used for up to 7 days, so long as it still stays in place on the wound.
The first thing you’ll notice is that the itching stops; then the redness fades; and finally, the height of the scar is reduced.
When using Mepiform to prevent scar formation on a newly healed wound, the treatment may need to be continued for up to three months or longer, depending on the size of the scar.
Mepiform can also be used to reduce existing, older scars if they are still pink or raised. The method is the same but, as with any scar treatment product, it may take longer, depending on the size of the scar.
