Mepiform® – Easy to apply, treats new and existing scars
According to international recommendations, dressings with silicone gel should be the first choice when treating hypertrophic scars and keloids (the most common types of scars). Mepiform is a silicone gel dressing.
It flattens, softens and fades red and raised hypertrophic scars and keloids resulting from surgery and accidents such as cuts and burns. It can also be used as a prophylactic therapy on closed wounds for prevention of future scarring.
Mepiform is simple to use anywhere on the body. It has a UV protection factor (UPF) of Class 5 and is waterproof, so you can wear it while bathing and showering or when outside in Summer. You can cut Mepiform to size to fit your scar.
To help Mepiform work well, you should:
- Wear the dressing continuously – 24 hours a day, if possible.
- Remove it once a day to check that the scar is OK.
- Try not to expose the scar to direct sunlight.
- Continue treatment until it no longer has any effect – this is usually after around three months.
